I have extensive information on Wladyslaw William Manduka, born Poland 1820, mercenary in British German Legion (second light dragoons-sergeant), US civil war vet 17th NY infantry and 25th NY cavalry. He married Mary Whitehead in Shorncliffe , Kent in 1856. I am his 3 Great-Grandson. Wlad is buried in the civil war cemetery, Loudon Park, Baltimore Maryland. He died in 1897. i am searching for Manduka's in Europe who can identify his Parents, possibly from Lomza, Poland. His military records show his father had the same name-I think this surname could be derived from the Italian Manduca, as Manduka is not a Polish surname-He had sons, William Edgar, Arthur, Roland, Orlando, and Theodore. Theodore served in the Spanish-American War, Arthur worked for the Pa railroad. Wlad was also a polygamist and has a colorful pension record file, and military history. The family lives in Pa and NJ. My branch (thru Arthur, Stark, Jennie Cairn)anglesized the name to Manduke cica 1918. Thanks. Joe | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
