Query Text: |
I am searching for African American Wansley's of: Banks County: cities of District 207(?), Homer, Anderson District, and Commerce Franklin County: city of Strange (possibly) Hall County: city of Morgan Gwinnette County: City of Buford My g-grandfather was Joseph Wansley (b.March 1880-Banks County / d. 1977) and he was married to Etta Kesler (b.1888? d.1935). My grandmother Maxine (Wansley) Lewis was their daughter. Joseph and Etta had several children According to the 1910, 1920, and 1930 census': Doy (son) b. 1906 ( he eventually moved to Minish GA in Jackson County) Annie b. 1909 Iva/Ivore/ Ivoregene (sp?) (son) 1911 Fred b. 1913 Mattie (Daughter) b. 1912 - Grady (sp?) (son) b.1914 Maxey/Maxine-aka Molly (my grandmother) b. 1915 -in Commerce Albert b. 1917 G.C b.1921 (son) Coley b. 1923 (son) Grace 1925 My grandmother is now deceased and the only siblings that I've heard of are Grace, Coley, and Fred. I can recall hearing that several of my grandmother's siblings passed away while they were young. Also, my g-grandmother Etta died sometime b/w 1930-36. My grandmother Maxine eventually relocated to Cincinnati and Joseph re-married Hattie (maiden name unknown). Joseph was living in Buford GA at the time of his death but is buried in Flat Creek Cemetary in Commerece (Banks County). I've been communicating with at least one other Wansley trying to make a connection but each time I think we have a match, I find information that contradicts my/our findings. For example, according to Joseph's death certificate, his father was Lemon Wansley and his mother was Martha Ward. In the 1880 census, there is a Lemon Wansley in Banks county whose father is Lem Wansley. The birth month/year of Lemon Wansley given on the census is March 1880. Joseph's birth month/year was March 1880. Although I in my gut I feel that Joseph's name may have been Lemon and that Lem is short for Lemon, I've been unable to confirm this. As mentioned previously, I believe my g-grandfather lived in Franklin County Georgia in 1900 working as a servent for a family named Ariail. His death certificate lists Joseph's place of birth in Banks County. According to the Welcome To Banks County, Georgia site hosted by Rootsweb,(http://www.rootsweb.com/~gabanks2/), " Banks was formed in 1858 from parts of Habersham and Franklin Counties." Again the month/birth year listed on the Census(1900) is March/1880. There are other Wansleys living near this family (Harrison Wansley) in the 1900 census. I can't find Lemon or Martha Wansley or any of Joseph's other siblings during this time ANYWHERE!!!!!!!! It's easy for me to draw a conclusion that I'm working with the same Joseph Wansley but I would like to confim this. I'm also curious to find out whether Harrison is also related. As a side note and one that leaves me with a ton of questions: Etta, Doy, Annie, and Iva are listed on the 1910 census as mulatto but on all other census, they are listed as Black. My grandmother Maxine was not Mulatto. I feel like I'm going round and round and am hoping to find someone out there who could shed more light. Any help/feed back would be appreciated and I'd be willing to share any other tid bits of information or search strategies that anyone else could benefit from. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
