Twenty years ago, I thought I descended the first wife, Ann Maria Ambrose, of Onslow County, North Carolina; of LtCol (1830's Holmes County, Missisippi militia) Robert Wm. James, born Wilmington, N.C., 1811; 1830's lived Holmes County, Mississippi, 1840's New Orleans, Louisiana, died Biloxi, Missisippi. She was the niece and namesake of Ann Maria Ward of Onslow. In the basement Register of Deeds vault of the old Edenton, N.C., courthouse; I found an un-usual Ambrose birth record of (all?) his children, plus crude drawing of his Ambrose COAT OF ARMS. Likely these Ambrose earlier, came from Ise of Wight County, Virginia; as did most of the Edenton locals then? Turned out that I descended LtCol James' second, New Orleans wife, Miss Jane Ann Nixon, daughter of from McGuire's Bridge, Co. Fermanagh, N. Ireland, New Orleans lawyer Lt. John Nixon; Adjutant, de Jean's 1st Louisiana Militia, War of 1812. Nixon wed Adeline Cecelia Copp, daughter of New Orleans lawyer, David Copp, Jr., Esq., from Dover, New Hampshire, and wife Mary "Polly" Watson Copp. David was murdered 1803 in a New Orleans gambling house.
