Hi, my name is Rodney Sam. I am doing research on my Donato ancestors of St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. I am a direct descendent of Donato Bello and Marie Jeanne Tailleferro through Catherine Victoire Donato and Jean Baptiste Guillory. I also have a possible link to Martin Donato through one of his slaves. When Martin Donato died in 1847, he freed six of his slaves. Some of them were my relatives. Marie Jeanne(g-g grandmother), Olympie(g-g-g grandmother, and her twin sister, Meurice. Olympie had an older brother named Sabin who was freed at birth by Martin. His mother is identified as being his slave, Celeste, he acquired from the succession of his son, Francois Donato, who died in 1837. The successions dont give any indication to the identity of the father of my ancestor, Marie Jeanne Donato or Olympie Donato. Later, when my ancestor, Marie Donato, married Leonard LaChapelle(descendent of Victorie Donato through the Birotte line), she listed her parents as being the former slave, Olympie Donato, and her father, as being Francois Donato.I believe and another cousin believes that this Francois Donato is proberly Martin's Son. But I have to confirm it. Any advice or information would be very helpful. THANKS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
