RE: Query #85768, posted 08 August 2005; Flowers: Harrill: Jones: Martin: Powell The query should have been captioned WAYNE COUNTY, NC, as that is where Nicholas Powell was living when he married Elizabeth "Bettie" Martin, daughter of Richard Martin and unknown first wife [Sarah?]. Richard Martin of Wayne Co., NC., married secondly Franky [Martin?]. Richard died 1786 in Wayne Co., NC. Richard Martin left six living children...Lydia, Aaron, Elizabeth, Richard, Jr., Bitha, and Sarah "Sally" Martin and deceased daughter Mary who was married to ___ Pipkin. There is no known connection between Richard Martin who married Frances Turner 25 Oct 1783 in Caswell Co., NC. This Richard was the son of Richard Martin and Anthrotie who are both buried in Caswell County. Seeking to establish the Rev. War service of the Richard Martin of Wayne County, NC. Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks. <almb@sw.rr.com> ROBESON COUNTY, NC: Searching for information re the parentage of Elizabeth Martin of Wayne Co., NC., who married Nicholas Powell of Robeson County. It was from Robeson County that the Powells migrated ca 1818 to Marion Co., MS., where Nicholas died 1821. Elizabeth Martin Powell, b 1760 to Richard MARTIN and unknown wife, perhaps whose name was Sarah. She had siblings 1) Lydia, b 1750, married Jacob Flowers; 2) Mary, b 1753, married ___ Pipin, dec'd before father wrote his will in 1786; and 3) Aaron, born 1755, d 1795 in Wayne Co., NC, leaving 7 children [Richard, Elizabeth, Nancy, William, Willis, Jesse, and Aaron]. After the death of the first wife, Richard MARTIN m2 Frances/Franky [perhaps maiden name of MARTIN] with whom he had 3 children: 1) Richard, Jr., b 1784; 2) Bitha, b 1785; and 3) Sarah "Sallie," b 1786, married 1806 to Samuel Flowers. Richard MARTIN died 1786 in Wayne Co., NC., his will was probated 29 May 1786 and inventory was made by his widow, Franky Martin, the following year. Franky Martin sold the 150 ac on which she was residing and which she had inherided from her dec'd husband, Richard MARTIN, to Samuel HARRILL on the condition that he take and rear her 3 children: Richard, Bitha and Sarah. Samuel HARRILL posted bond in 1788 for the guardianship of Bitha and Sarah Martin; Aaron MARtIN posted bond for the guardianship of Richard, Jr. In 1793, Starling POWELL, brother to Nicholas POWELL and son of Douglas POWELL of Robeson Co., NC, posted bond for the guardianship of Richard MARTIN, Jr., being responsible to Aaron MARTIN. Starling POWELL later purchased property from Richard MARTIN, Jr., that had been left to him by his father, Richard MARTIN, Sr. This propety was patial cause for the lawsuit filed by siblings of Starling POWELL at his death. One of the participants in the suit was Nicholas POWELL of Robeson Co. Later, the widow of Richard MARTIN may have m2 one William JONES. I will appreciate it very much if there is someone who can help me with this Richard MARTIN and his two wives. Also, did this Richard MARTIN serve during the Rev. War as reported by a descendant of his daughter Sarah who had married Samuel FLOWERS> Thank you very much for your help. Margaret <almb@sw.rr.com> | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
