I am just starting to search for names of my ancestors from my fathers side. His side of the family is american indian and our last name is Fire. The problem I'm having is I can't get past my great-great grandfather who had the name Firetail, No first, No last...just Firetail. His Wifes name was Medicine Shell. You see my delema! This tells me that this is where every person before him will not have a surname! Because they went by the names that were given to them either by the event at their birth or what was going on at that particular time or from an elder in the tribe. I know that most of my relatives on that side are sioux indian from South Dakota and a few from Nebraska. Firetail's son is Louis Fire B.1874 or 1878 Crow Creek, S.D., he had the tail removed from his name. His wifes name was Minnie H. Finley of Oaklahoma (Caddo Indian) And their son was Spencer Louis Fire B.1939 FT Thompson, S.D. his wifes name was Ethel Marion Edwards and their sons were Spencer Louis Fire Jr. also born in Ft.
