I am searching for my parents and hopefully brothers, sisters and other relatives. Records show the following. I was born full term on April 11, 1938 and weighed 6 lbs, 13 oz. At the time, my mother was 17 (born 1921)with fair complexion, reddish brown hair, brown eyes, weighted 110 lbs. and was 5'6". She was described as poised and intelligent with initiative, having a "sweet and refined manner" and expressed herself well in conversation. She was an American and her family was of the Methodist faith. She had graduated from high school and planned to work as a live-in companion/nurse. Her father had a 7th grade education and was a supervisor with a state agency. Her mother had finished the 10th grade, taught Sunday School and was a member of several church organizations. My mother had an older brother who completed school and also had a supervisory job with the state. My father was born in 1912, making him 26 at my birth. He was of medium height, weighted 155 lbs., had blue eyes, sandy hair and fair complexion. He had 5 older siblings and 2 younger ones. His family was of the Free Will Baptist faith. He operated the family farms with two of his older brothers. The yougest brother worked as a retail clerk. Two older sisters were teachers and one a cosmotologist. A younger sister was still in the home. Although my parents were not married, records describe my father as a responsible young man who financially supported my mother while she stayed at the Greensboro Rest Cottage on Haywood Street during her pregnancy. Feeling that she was unable to provide the stable, 2 parent family she wanted for me, she was very concerned that a loving plan be made for her baby. Therefore I was placed with in the Childrens Home of Greensboro, NC. where I was called Nelson. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
