My grandfather, George Smith, was born in Peterhead, Aberdeen, Scotland in 1874, the son of John and Mary (nee Jack) Smith. He had an older sister, Isabella (born 1871) and a younger sister, Mary Jane (whom we called Jean) born in 1877, I think. As a young man he went to Wales to work (he was a stone mason or granite cutter). He married Ellen Blanche Evans from the Rhayader vicinity around 1906 and they went to North America, living in both Vermont, USA, and Quebec, Canada. Isabella married a Charles Wyness. I believe they came to Canada but returned to Scotland after a few years. Jean married Charles George Raeburn in 1899 and they came to Canada. They had 5 children. My grandparents had 4 children, George, Ellen, Dorothy and Olwen.
