I am tracing the HERBERT family that lived in St. Mary's County. I undestand many of them attended St Joesph's Catholic Church in Morganza, MD. The furthest can go back is to Thomas W. and Maria (Mariah) Herbert. I recently obtained a certificate of marriage that indicate Thomas W. Herbert and "Mary Crutch" were married on December 11, 1883. It also indicates Thomas Herbert father is Barnes Herbert and Mary Crutch father was Joseph Cruth. It does not mention either of their mother's. THe witnesses at the marriage were John H. Herbert and Susan Ann Herbert. Thomas and Maria's children where William, Lucy, Emma, Ella Maude, Mary, James, John. They also raised a grandaugther Anna Teresa. Many of them moved to Washington,DC after 1930. One of them married into the Goldring family. I am African American. Here is what I know so far: 1. My maternal grandmother was Anna Teresa Herbert 2. Her mother was Lucy P. Herbert. I know Lucy died when my grandmother was very young. She was raised by her grandparents. From looking through the census I have guessed Lucy died between 1904 (when my grandmother was born and 1910 (she is not listed in the 1910 census). 3. Lucy P. Herbert's parents were Thomas Washington Herbert and Maria (sometiemes spelled Mariah) Cutch Herbert. They had the following children: - William A. Herbert - Thomas Pine Herbert (believed to be called Pine Herbert sometimes) - Emma Louise Hebert Smallwood - Ella M. Herbert - Joseph L. Herbert - John W. Herbert - James F. Herbert - Janie Elizabeth Herbert Goldring. She married John Philip Goldring in 1928. They had the following children: ( I got this information from Janie's obituary) = Gertrude E. Goldring Ford = Julia V. Ford = Helen Bryant = Teresa Herbert Alexander = Alice Plater = Mary C. Jackson = Thomas G. Goldring = Charles W. Goldring = Herbert F. Golding ( may be called Frances) = Earl B. Goldring = James C. Goldring The 1930 census show Mariah Herbert, William Herbert and John & Janie Goldring all living in Lenordtown,MD. It appears that they all lived next to each other. Mariah lived in house #4, William lived in house #5 and John & Janie lived in house #6.
