Trying to find MABES ancestors. Most clues point to Irisburg, Henry Co. VA., Montgomery Co., VA and Stokes, Co., NC So far I can only trace back to my gg grandfather Edward Lafayette Mabes, Sr. born abt 1798-1809 (also listed sometimes as Edmund or EdmondLafayette, Sr.) I don't know where he was born, who his parents were or where from, etc. THIS IS MY PRIMARY QUEST!! Records get very confusing when I get to him. Family used to say EL Sr. had brother named Reuben but can't confirm that. My grandfather Reed Oliver Mabes grew up in Montgomery Co. VA. His grandfather *E L Sr. married Elizabeth (Mary) Travis Feb. 18, 1822 in Pittsylvania VA, near Henry Co. and then ** EL Sr married Lucinda Roach in either Henry Co., VA or Rockingham Co NC Aug. 23, 1843 Reed's father Edward Lafayette Mabes Jr. b. May 4 1830-1834, possibly Irisburg, Henry Co. I have seen his death listed as Nov. 9, 1912 in Eden NC and burial without date listed as Stoneville, NC. My cousin saw headstone in Eden, NC.
