I don't know why but the Shields name is a hard one to find family. I am whishing for a magic trick here, the following is what I know; In 1850 Lawerence Shields came to the USA from Ireland, there are two documents stating he was born in 1840, another 1834. So that would make him either 10 or 16 when he came here. He married Margaret unknown. Their first child was William Francis Shields, my grandfather, he was born in 1864 in Nashville Tennessee. He had other siblings, Hugh born in Tennessee in 1868, Edward born in Ohio in 1873, Thomas born in Tennessee in 1876, Lawerence born in Tennessee in 1878, and Maggie(probably named for her mother) born in 1881 in New Mexico. There was another child, I do not know what sex or at what time it was born. Lawerence the father of these children was in the Civil War, in the Ohio Vol 3rd Company H, he was a Sarge. In New Mexico he is shown in the 1880 census as a railroad contractor. His son Hugh is shown in 1900 as an engineer in Alamagrado, New Mexico. My grandfather William Francis Shields, also worked on the railroad, he was a boilermaker and that was in Arizona. I would appreciate any help any one can give, Thank You Ethel | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
