Looking for information on Hiram Thomas Kates Sr. who was born ~1843 in Caswell Co., North Carolina or Ireland to unknown parents. Mother's first name maybe Victoria. He married Martha Ann Saunders [daughter of James Saunders and Elizabeth Unknown] on April 16, 1866 in Halifax Co., Virginia. They had 7 known children: Sarah Ellen aka Sallie, Hiram Thomas Jr., Martha, Edward William, Elizabeth, Lelia, Samuel Allison, and Robert Hewell. Hiram Jr. was born July 2, 1874 and died December 3, 1950. He was married to Lottie Lou Anderson and they had at least five children: Hiram Russell, Rebecca, Samuel E., William Carter, and Martha Sue. Sallie was born September 10, 1878 in Halifax County and died October 10, 1955 in Durham Co., North Carolina. She was married to Charles Chopin Hall [son of Elisha Byrd Hall Sr. and Susan Johnson]; they had at least ten children: Moody Allison, Charles Hedly, Eva Lucille, Mamie Ellen, Mattie B., Edna Barbara, Allie Mae, Viola, Allan C., and Blanch. Samuel was born July 11, 1884. Don't know date of death but believe he died in Pennsylvania. Robert was born May 6, 1886 and he was married to Nannie Sue Barksdale.
