Hello, My name is Jon Wenzel. My father's mother's maiden name was Loys Ladema Van Ausdeln. Her father, Howard Craigton Van Ausdeln was Sheriff of Twin Falls, Idaho from 1912 to 1916. My Van Ausdeln's came to Twin Falls from Belmont County, Ohio. They spent a few years in Utah, where Howard was a Constable of the peace before Twin Falls. Howard's father was John Luke Van Ausdeln. He served in the 30th. Iowa D Co. Infantry Volunteers during the Civil War. John Luke Van Ausdeln' father was Wesley. He was born in 1815 in Belmont County, Ohio. I have much documentation on John Luke Van Ausdeln forward. I have very little on Wesley and his wife Mary Bishop and almost none on Wesley second wife Lydia. An huge Elerick family group sheet on Genealogy.com shows my Van Ausdelns. All of the dates are correct so I am inclined to believe that Wesley's father listed as William Vanausdale and William's father Luke Vanasdal are correct. The Elerick and Van Ausdeln families were linked when Maria Van Ausdeln, sister to John Luke Van Ausdeln married George Washington Elerick. George Washington Elerick and John Luke Van Ausdeln were in the same regiment and company in the Civil War so the families might have been close. I have been unable to contact anyone about the Elerick family group sheet to obtain copies of documentation. Is this your line or an off-shot? Are we related? Can you help me fill in the blanks?
