Seeking descendants of Amez “Amzi” B. STAPLES, son of George Thomas & Sarah AZER Staples, and his Uncle, Moses P. Staples b. ca. 1834, probably Monroe Co., PA, son of Richard R. Staples & Elizabeth BLANCHER / BLANCHARD. Moses m. ca. 1855 my Great, Great Grandmother, Elen Postens, dau. of Elihu & Eleanor TRANSUE POSTENS. Moses and Elen’s children were: 1. Richard Elihu Staples b. ca. 1856; 2. Mary Ann Staples b. 03 Feb 1857 Priceburg, Monroe Co., PA, m. Jun 1892 Sylvester L. SCHOONOVER, son of Ezekiel & Hannah GELLER Schoonover; 3. Silvesta Staples b. ca. 1859; 4. John Staples b. ca. 1861, and 5. Moses Staples Jr., b. ca. 1864. Children of Mary Ann Staples and Sylvester L. Schoonover were: Leanna Schoonover; Willie Schoonover. Additional information is available on the Schoonover family. Moses Staples Jr. m. ca. 1890 Rosie DUNLAP, dau. of William & _____ Dunlap. Their children were : William M. Staples b. ca. 1892; Anna M. Staples b. ca. 1896; Jerome B. Staples b. ca. 1899; Moses U. Staples b.ca. 1901; Chester A. Staples b. ca. 1907; Walter H. Staples b. ca. 1908; and Bertha Staples b. ca. 1911. Descendants of Moses Sr’s other children (Richard E., Silvesta, and John) are unknown. Oral family history states that Moses P. (Sr.) “went to fight in the Civil War, and was never heard from, or of, again”. This was in the Union Army. We’ve found government documents stating that he deserted on 17 Nov 1862, only 2 weeks after enlisting. He enlisted with his brother, Daniel H. Staples, and brother in law (that is, his wife’s brother) William Postens. William deserted the same day as Moses, as did many other men, when their newly formed regiment was scheduled to leave PA for VA. Daniel served his full term and was mustered out 9 months later. Since Moses’s son, Moses Jr., was born about 2 years after his desertion, and his wife had remarried by 1873, we’re interested in finding out what became of him during the years 1863 to 1873. Did he reenlist after Nov 1862? We’d love to know what the family story is among his direct descendants, who are our “half cousins” in some way. I would also like to find descendants of Moses, Sr.’s nephew, Amez Staples – I have a family story, told by my Grandmother, that I’d like to pass on. I don’t know any of his family’s names, but do believe he was married. We have additional information on the Staples family ancestors, as well as the Postens, that we’d be happy to share. Moses’s wife Elen Postens married 2nd Peter ALBERT, my ancestor. These families continued to live in Monroe Co., PA, until at least 1950. Note: We’re famliar with the large Staples family that lived in Maine. We’ve found no connection with this family. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
