Stephen Armstrong was allegedly born in Ireland, probably about the 1770's. He married a Ruth of New York birth (1777, possibly in NY or later in the Ohio Territory. They sold land in 1813 in Reily township of Butler Co. Ohio and next appeared in North Bend, Miami township in Hamilton Co. Ohio. Perhaps the last of their approx. 8 children was Stephen, b. 1818 in North Bend/Cleves. Stephen Sr. died about that time. Widow Ruth stayed in Miami township through 1830 and later lived with children. I believe some of the other siblings included Cyrus (b. 1805), Aaron (b. 1807), Ewell (b. 1814), Lucinda (b.1816)and Stephen(Jr.), b.1818. Most of the family were fine furniture makers, later founding Armstrong Furniture Co. of Evansville and Memphis. Cyrus and Ewell were in Lawrenceburgh, Dearborn, IN for years. Aaron stayed in Cincinnati, a carpenter. Lucinda married Wm. Douglas, a cooper in 1843 in Evansville. Stephen Jr. was among first to relocate to Evansville in 1839, where most of them ended up through the late 1800's. I want to know more about the parents, Stephen Sr. and Ruth, and the rest of their children. My direct ancestor is Stephen Jr. who married Nancy Bennett in Evansville in 1843. Nancy was a daughter of Morris Bennett Sr. and Barbara Shearer, who married in Hamilton Co., likely Anderson township, in 1824. Shearer was born near Harrisburg in Dauphin Co. PA 1802, and I haven't connected to her parentage yet. Cyrus married Catherine of New York (likely Akins)abt 1829; Ewell married Betsy Leonard abt 1834.
