Query Text:

Hi! Our direct Bratton/Brattain ancestor is Lemmons Bratton. He appears in the 1850 living by William Brattain at Farmington, Van Buren, Iowa. Bratton and Brattain are both used in the records but appears to be the same family. Lemmons names one of his sons William and William names one of his sons Lemmons. William appears to be the older brother having established a birthdate of 13 Oct 1809 in Indiana. Lemmons was born 20 Mar 1815 in Wayne Co., Indiana. William's obituary states that his family moved from Indiana, to Illinois and then to Iowa. William remains in Iowa, minister by occupation in the UN?(from census) in Mt. Pleasant, Henry, Iowa for many years and finally ends up in Oskaloosa, Mahaska, Iowa and dies in Jefferson Twp, Mahaska, Iowa which is next to Oskaloosa in 1896. Lemmons moves to Polk, Adair, Missouri by 1860. Then he resides in various towns near the border of Missouri and Iowa. in Mercer Co., Missouri and Decatur, Iowa. He joins the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1881. He dies in 15 Mar 1885 probably in Pleasanton, Decatur Iowa. Now I have noticed that the well known Brattain line of Robert Brattain and Mary Millikan have a lot of similarities. Robert Brattain dies in Wayne Co., Indiana(birthplace of my Lemmons). Some of the children of Robert end up in Morgan County, Illinois. Jonathan Hill Brattain(Robert's son) is married in Van Buren, IA(where my brothers end up in 1850). I also find many Brattains living in Mercer Co., Missouri but have not established how they fit together. In a hisstory "A Short Oral History of the Early Brattons in America" which is about Paul Bratton/Brattain son of Robert, Benjamin Bratton Jr. of Searcy County Arkansas states in 1929 that Three brothers came from Scotland to America and seperated and that his great Grandfather Robert came to North Carolina and that his son Paul went to Tennessee. My Brattains could either be related to these other brothers or one of the sons of Robert Bratton that little is known about referring specifically to Thomas and Benjamin. Can anyone help me find some leads in my investigation. I have spent many hours working on it. I would appreciate any and all feedback. I am also willing to share what info I have.
