Searching for information on Rueben Gifford, born abt. 1765 to Joshua & Elizabeth (Wilcox) Gifford in Dutchess County,New York. He may have moved first to Upper Canada /Ontario? Hope Township. Later he moved to Stanbridge,Bedford Co.,Quebec. From there he purchased land in 1789 with his brother in law Robert Gage in Milton,Vermont,U.S.A. He sold that land in 1810 and returned to Stanbridge. He is listed in Milton census for 1800 but is no longer there in the next census of 1810. In the 1810 deed from Milton,VT his sister Rebecca Gifford is called widow of Robert Gage,of Hope Township,District of Newcasstle,UP (Upper Canada).Another source states that she died in Ontario and is buried St. Marks Angelican,Port Hope,Ontario. Another sister,Sarah is reported to be buried in Brockville,Leeds Co., Ontario. Rueben Gifford was my 4th great grandfather. Getting official documentation on his birth, marriage & or death is imparative as it is my sole connection to my Pilgrim ancestry and without it I can't become recognized by the Mayflower Descendants Society. Any information on the Giffords and Gages, and in particular Rueben Gifford will be greatly appreciated. Many many thanks in advance for info and or pointing me in the right direction to obtain the necessary documentation.
