BABY BOY SUMNER,IOWA AUGUST 1958-1959 I am searching for my full brother. Our mother was awaiting the finalization of a divorce from her first husband when she became pregnant. Our parents eventually married in June 1960. I found out about my brothers existence in the late 1980's and have searched ever since to no avail. I have joined registries, put ad's in the local paper in Waterloo (Courier) hoping my brother or a family friend, someone could set my feet on the right path to finding him. My brother was born in Sumner, Iowa (though his "new" birth certificate might read Waterloo area of Black Hawk county. Born: August 19-20 of 1958 or 59. Mothers name (if available on any records to my brother, may have been listed as her maiden name: Halverson. Her first marriage surname: Gerber or she may have even used our fathers: Boody. The adoption was arranged by the OB who eventually delivered me, a Dr. William Drier, deceased. It is my understanding that the couple who adopted my brother had also previously adopted a baby girl. (Unconfirmed) I know he was a large baby...perhaps 8-10 lbs. Our mother was never given the opportunity to hold or see him...so I have no name and it most likely would've been changed at time of adoption anyways. I am concerned my brother may not even know he's adopted since the protocol back then seems to have been changing a birth certificate to reflect the adoptive parents as actual birth parents. A legal representative or attorney came to Sumner and took the my brother to his adoptive family. There is a possible surname of ROOF but again, unconfirmed. The Law Firm who handled the adoption is long gone and Ive had little luck in determining where the old records might be. The adoption was finalized in Waterloo, Black Hawk County Courthouse in late Fall or Winter of the same year. (Again, not for certain if birth year is 1958 or 1959) It isn't much to go on but I still continue to throw the information out there to the Universe in the hopes someday...my brother will go looking for his birth family too. I have been searching for a long time my brother. Know that you were wanted and not easily given up by our parents...circumstances of the times and complicating peripheral circumstances. I dream someday of finding you...to know you are well, to see our parents & myself reflected in your face. Be well until we finally meet brother.
