Query Text:

I was born @ Temple University Hospital on February 9, 1967 and adopted in or around July/August of 1967 I think. See, as a lot of people search, I have NOTHING to go on. I am searching for my family's health history. Currently I have Crohn's Disease and a lot of complications. A LOT! My doctors all agree that knowing my health history could help them with treating me. What makes this hard is my adoptive father passed away in 1988. Before he passed away, a few years prior I had found out that I was adopted. My mother who is still alive refuses to give me any information. She claims she has no adoption papers and the place where I was adopted burned down, and of course she forgets the name of the agency. I cannot help but think this was an illegal adoption or at least not something that was done thru an agency. And yes, it is cruel to not share any information with me, my adoptive mother has many issues including not wanting to admit I am adopted. Friends and family recall that literally one day to all their surprise "I just showed up." My adoptive mother had always been secretive with any details about where I came from. She never talked about it with any friends or family. You can see why I am suspicious. Regardless of all that, I am still in need of finding out a family health history. Anything could help! I know the following however I do not know how accurate the information is, or if it's even true: My birth certificate lists my adoptive parents Frank Hays & Alma Hays Birth certificate lists place of birth as Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia PA Date of Birth as February 9, 1967 Birth certificate lists my name as Douglas Brian Hays Generally friends and family say I was adopted around July or August of 1967 Adoptive parents lived in Philadelphia PA I'm told birth parents were college students Adopted "possibly" thru Catholic Social Services Mother claims adoption agency "burned down" and she forgets where it was/what the name way & claims to have no records. I'm sure you can empathize with my frustration! Sadly, that is all that I have. Any information anyone may have would be extremely helpful. As I said, I do not even know if my adoption was legal. Given the fact that my mother, in spite of her issues, has been so secretive with the details of my adoption even with her closest friends and family members there could be a lot more to this story than me looking for some health history. I certainly do not want to turn my birth parents lives upside down, I just would like to have information that could help me lead a better life and be treated for my condition more effectively. Sure, if my birth parents wanted to get to know me or be in my life I'd gladly accept that but it is not my motivation. I respect them for giving birth to me. I believe there has to be friends or family of my birth parents out there as well. Granted it was the late 1960's and a pregnancy out of wedlock wasn't something people really discussed but I am sure someone somewhere knows something. Anything. If anyone out there has information, suggestions, or could point me in the right direction that would be beyond appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
