My paternal grandmother was Helen Hendry/Hendrie Stewart Allen, born 2 Dec 1880, Kirkintilloch, Scotland. Her father, Walter, died when she was quite young and she took her step-father's surname, Allen. She entered the U.S. at New York on 10 April 1888. Married Charles Norris Paine on 28 Oct 1904 at Kearny NJ. He died at Hartford CT in 1954 or 1955. They had five children: Charles, 1915-1975; William, 1919-abt. 2004; Helen Margaret (Peg), 1920-2001; Albert, 1922; and Walter, 1924-1975. Grandma went by the nickname Nellie.
