I was left (anonymously) at Granville County Hospital ( near Oxford, N.C.), around December 19th or 20th, 1946 in the early morning during a shift change. Only one person( a patient)vaguely remembered seeing someone bringing in what looked like a laundry basket. It was a nice looking youngish man wearing wingtip shoes and he seemed to be accompanied by a much younger man. I was not born at that hospital but it was determined that I had been delivered by someone who knew how to clamp my umbilical cord. It was determined that I had been born around the 15th or 16th. Some clothes and my written out formula were left along with me and I was lying in a laundry basket made into a very nice bassinet. Because there was no Foster Home available at the time, I was given into the custody of the couple who were to become my adoptive parents when I became 5 years old ( they have both passed on now). I was told the FBI was called in to try and locate a parent but it was unsuccessful. I was given the name,Betsy Caldwell on my birth certificate and it was later changed upon my final adoption. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
