Greenlaw 250 (1753-2003) Greenlaw Bisesquicentennial Commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the Greenlaw Family's Arrival in North America in 1753 PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Stephen Snell, 1106 Belle View Blvd., #C2, Alexandria, Virginia, USA 22307 Tel.: (703) 768-4708 (h) and (202) 651-7264 (o) ~ E-mail: StephSnell@aol.com Alexandria, VA, USA ; January, 2003 - Greenlaw descendants in the United States and Canada will gather in Brunswick, Maine in August of 2003 to commemorate the bisesquicentennial of their ancestors' arrival in American two hundred and fifty years ago. William and Jane Greenlaw and their children arrived on the coast of Maine (then part of Massachusetts) in the area of the St. Georges River near Warren in 1753 after setting sail from Greenock, Scotland, and crossing the Atlantic Ocean aboard the brig "Dolphin." Later, after the American Revolution, many Greenlaws, as Loyalists, migrated to St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada (then part of Nova Scotia) while others remained in Maine. Greenlaw 250, as the commemorative event is known, will include a reunion of Greenlaw descendants planned for August 14-17, 2003, in Maine and is expected to be the largest gathering ever of the descendants of William and Jane Greenlaw. It will be held in conjuction with the 25th Annual Maine Highland Games at Thomas Point Beach which are sponsored by the St. Andrews Society of Maine. In recognition of this milestone event for Greenlaw descendants, the Saint Andrews Society has extended the great honor of designating the Home Clan, of which the Greenlaws are a sept or family, as the honored clan during the the Maine Games, which will be celebrating their own commemorative event on their 25th anniversary. In addition an American (US and Canadian) Greenlaw tartan is being designed especially to commemorate the historic event. Interim coordinator of Greenlaw 250 is Stephen Holmes Snell, formerly of Hallowell, Maine, and currently of Alexandria, Virginia, USA. Snell is the great grandson of Thomas Angus Greenlaw of St. George and L'Etete, New Brunswick, and Lubec, Maine. "This will mark an important milestone in the heritage of the Greenlaw descendants and give us an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our Scottish heritage as well as our contibutions and enduring longevity in the United States and Canada. We invite all Greenlaw descendants from throughout North America to attend, and we hope that every limb, branch and twig of the family tree will be represented. While the celebration is being held in the United States we are extending a warm and special invitation to our neighboring Canadian family and friends to attend and hope that they will feel this is very much their celebration as well. The history of the Greenlaw Family is so completely intertwined between the two countries." Anyone wishing information on the reunion (including the registration form) may check the Greenlaw 250 web site at www.greenlaw250.org or they may send a self addressed, stamped envelope to: Greenlaw 250, c/o Snell, 1106 Belle View Blvd., #C2, Alexandria, VA 22307. The web site will be constantly updated with developments as plans progress. - End -
