I am researching my Griffith family of KY, USA (1700s - 1900s}. I have little to go on except some cryptic hints shared by my father. My Grandfather was J C Griffith born in South Carrolton, Muhlenberg county, KY to Lewis and Julia "Armstrong" Griffith in 1868. Lewis Griffith (my GGF) was born in Ponds Creek, Muhlenberg county, KY to James and Jane "Rose" Griffith in app. 1815. Lewis' parents, James and Jane "Rose" Griffith are on record as being born in VA. KY was not a state in the 1780-90s when Lewis's parents were born. My father shared that our Griffith family came to the US colonies from Wales during the 1600s and moved to KY during the 1700s. The Griffith family labored as farmers and miners in KY. During the late 1890s, J C Griffith and his brother Samuel went to work for the railroad (my GF worked for the Illinois Central railroad in Memphis, TN until his death in 1927). J C Griffith wanted my father to go to college at Princeton (in western KY) as some of our Griffith relatives had attended college there. Reoccuring first names in the Griffith family through the 1790s to 1900s are: James, John, Lewis, Lenox, Nathaniel, Samuel, William, Nancy, Mary, Martha, Rebecca, and Susannah. If any of the above info connects to your Griffith family or if you have any ideas how I can better trace my ancestry, please contact me at jamesbailey009@comcast.com . Thanks, Sandra "Griffith" Bailey | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
