Surname(s):

CHERRY : WILLOUGHBY

Query Text:

I'm looking for any information on African-Americans Spencer and Caroline(Cherry)Willoughby, who lived in Winton from 1870 to 1900, as seen on the census. Caroline died somewhere after that census and 1910, when Spencer was listed as a widower in the 1910 census. I know that I cannot get death records for her He died in 1924, in Ahoskie, and was buried "near Stoney Creek", according to his death certificate. I'd like to also know about churches in that area, that were/are historically black, that Spencer and Caroline might have attended. Spencer lived on Catherine Street in 1910. In 1920, he lived on Maple Street, but by his death in 1924, he was back living on Catherine street. Thanks for your help in advance.
