Seeking information about the McGUIRK/ McGURK family from the Cavan area of County Cavan. My ancestor is Terence McGURK (1814-1861) and his wife, Ann SMITH (1816-....). They immigrated to Scotland then to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne where they remained. Their eldest son, John McGURK (1836-1878) and his wife, Ann BENSON (1834-1874) returned to live in College Street, Cavan city. I am trying to learn more about a Major McGUIRK, known as the uncle of John and Ann's eldest daughter, Elizabeth (AKA Lillian Cecilia) who immigrated to Australia. Major McGuirk was still living near Cavan city in 1917, when he was visited by his great nephew, Leo Kearney, from Australia during WW1. His home may have been McGuirk House in Knockahista, 3 miles from Cavan City. Any help appreciated. margaret(at)cremorne1.com | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
