I'm searching for my son that had been taken from me in May of 1982. His birth name was Steven Micheal Yant. He was born at 12:0am, 10-01-81 at Hennepin Coumty Medical Center, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His father took him to the police station in Bentonville Arkansas when I went to the store to get band-aids, because he cut himself on some broken glass. When I got back to the house, his father had locked me out of the house and told me what he had done. I was 19, no family around and didn't know what to do, I went to a friends house and we went to the police station, only to find out they put him in foster care and I couldn't do anything until Monday, this happened on a Saturday. Neesdless to say, they didn't give me back my son and I was to young to know to get an attorney. My mother who was in Minnesota told them she would take him, but they wouldn't give him to her. They actually told her they thought I had hurt him, so they wouldn't give him to me. Isn't it funny that I had another son and they didn't even worry about me hurting him. When they finally had a court date, I went to it and they judge was out of town. They never set up another court date until 2 1/2 months later.Needless to say I lost it, mentally, emotionaly, and physicly. By the time they had the 2nd court date,my family had come and gotten me from Arkansas and brought me back to Minnesota. I was going through extreme depession and was intitutionalized. The doctors told my mother they thought I would end up in a mental intitution. She talked me into giving Steven up for adoption. She thought that she would have to raise my other son and take care of me for the rest of her life. It took me 3 years to get myself half way together, to know that the Bentonville, Arkansas DHS had screwed me! They lied and kept my son. Legally they were suppose to have ne in court with-in 5 working days, did they,NO. They took my son from me! When I did go and see an attorney, when I finallyhad my act together, he told me how DHS in Bentonville, Ark, should hve given Steven to me that Monday, once they found out his father and I had been living together and he had done that just to get back at me. (his father told the police that some woman just dropped him off at his house and said she didn't know where she was going or when she would be back. This was in the news paper! Didn't mention that I went there to get him with-in 2 hours.) That they legally were suppose to have me in court with-in 5 working days, which they didn't. Also because I had been incompetent at the time of signing the adoption papers, it was all illegal!( I had a nervous break down in Minnesota, and was hospitaliazed) I wanted visitation rights, but my attorney wanted to go for legal custody. Trust me I wanted Steven so bad, but what would that do to him. He was 3 1/2 years old, and had been with his adoptive parents for 2 1/2 years. He was 7 months old when this happened. I decided not to pursue it. Right or wrong decision I don't know? I couldn't put him through it or his adoptive parents. I'm almost sure, or I hope I am, that they didn't know the true story behind how he had gotten into DHS custody. I knew what it felt like to have have a child ripped out of your heart. All I want for him is to know the truth! That he has a older bother and a younger sister that know about him. That want to have a relationship with him, and a mother who never wanted to give him up! I have thought about him every day, and cried many tears for him over the years. My heart will not be whole until I see him again. My name at the time of his birth was Justine Yant. I signed the adoption papers up in Minnesota and left them open, but I found out later you have to go by the laws of the state the child was in at the time of adoption. Arkansas didn't allow open adoption at that time. But he could still get his origal birth certificate from Minnesota! If any one knows how to find my son, or if you are looking for me Steven, please contact me through this wedsite. I do have Photos! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
