Looking for family and descendents of Martin White and Felonise Barnabe of St. Landry Parish. Both persons were free people of color before the Civil War and descend from such families. Martin White was a Civil War veteren who served in the 1st Louisiana Guard. Martin White was a first cousin to my ggg grandfather, Jean Pierre Sam. The children of Martin White and Felonise were: 1. Adam White who married Cecilia Lewis 2. Frozine White who married Valerie Granger 3.Mary White who married Pelton Jean 4. Jean Baptiste White 5. Pierre White 6. Elie White many of their children lived in the Grand Coteau, Carencro, and Iberia area in Louisiana in the early 1900s. Martin White was the son of the irishman, John White, who fathered several children with a free woman of color named Euphrosine Masse or Senette in the records. She was the sister of my gggg grandmother, Babet Masse aka Elisabeth Sennet. Babet Masse married Jean-Louis Sam,a free negro in Opelousas in the 1830s. All of these families were free persons of color who lived in the Carencro, Iberia, Grand Coteau, Arnaudville, and Opelousas areas. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
