John Owen Foley b. abt 1796 in Ireland d. 23 Aug 1886 Newmarket, NB, Canada m. Mary M. MacDonald abt. 1826 in Leighlinbridge, County Carlow, Ireland. We believe John was from Cork County. John & Mary immigrated to Canada about 1828-1830. Five children: Katherine b. abt 1827 Ireland; Anne & John (twins) b. Jun 1834; Hugh b. 12 Jul 1844 (my g-grandfather); Bernard b. 12 Sep 1847. John was a "hedgemaster" in Ireland, teaching children behind the hedges because it was against the law and had to leave Ireland because of a British Bounty on him.
