You might be interested in a project that I have entered with a few other folks named Reber. Right now there are twenty-three men signed up for a DNA research project. This project is with Relative Genetics http://www.relativegenetics.com and we are also using DNA-Heritage, a British lab is a fairly simple test to determine once and for all the answer to the question are we related?. The simple part is that the DNA sample required is just a swab of cheek cells from inside your cheek - a bit like brushing your teeth, but against the inside of your cheek. The result from the analysis will be a scientifically precise determination of our Y Chromosomes compared to each participant in the study. This answer will be either yes or no - we are, or we are not related. The comparison will also tell us how far back our most recent common ancestor (MRCA) lived and approximately how many generations ago our individual branches of the family tree divided from our MRCA. We might also discover family relationships between participants coming from completely different branches of the Reber family tree. The bad news is that the cost per individual is $175 each. We presently have twenty-three participants and are asking if anyone else is interested in participating. The entrance requirement is just that you be a male descended from a direct Reber ancestor. We have also invited a few related names with possible Reber roots to participate: RABER, REBERT, RABERT, RAVER, etc. The Y chromosome is passed from father to son and changes very slowly from generation to generation. The measurement of Y chromosome change is used to calculate the number of generations between individuals and their MRCA. You can read all about the test on the Relative Genetics Website http://www.relativegenetics.com. If you are interested or have questions, please let me know. Consider this your personal invitation. We'd like to have you join us. Chuck Reber family@reber.org | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
