Researching William Toy Bartle of either Philadelphia or nearby Mullica Hill, New Jersey, b. 17 Feb 1822, m. Elizabeth Granger Sanburn b. 11 Mar 1829 in Canandaigua, Ontario, New York. His boyhood and youth, till was about seventeen years of age, were spent in Philadelphia area. He pursued an academic course of study at Cincinnati, Ohio, and for one year was Missionary Teacher among the Choctaw Indians. He was a graduate of Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, class of 1849, and taught the first public or common school of Greene County, Illinois, at Carrollton, in 1851. He was a minister and eventually bought in May, 1869, 120 acres on section 17, Douglas Township, Iowa and began improvements in June 1871. In the spring of 1875, he erected a dwelling and moved his family on his land. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
