I was born Joyce Olivia (I think) on September 20, 1978 at Sarasota Memorial, and immediately placed in foster care. After living with my foster family for eight months, they moved to Pennsylvania, and I was taken in by social worker Beth Smith and her husband Robert F. Hopton, and eventually adopted. I grew up in Sebring, Florida. Judge Clifton Kelley signed my adoption papers. My birth mother was short, had blond hair at the time and big brown eyes, as do I. There isn't much information about the birth or adoption, but I believe my birth mother was 19 and unwed and originally from Kentucky, though she had intimate knowledge of the Sarasota area. She was clever, giving false information to the hospital attendants. She was in labor when she checked into the hospital and crawled out of the bathroom window upon giving birth. I don't think she ever held me or saw me after the birth. At the hospital, she was in the same room as a woman who, I believe, had a son. I'm interested in connecting with my birth mother. Mostly, I'd like to know that she's okay, and I'd like to know if I have brothers and sisters. Any information would be helpful, as there are no records or files available regarding the adoption. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
