I am seeking info about a Dr. John M. Sharp (1811-1844). He is buried in the small community of Richland (near Ebenezer), in the old cemetery across from the "Little Red School House," where the Order of the Eastern Star was founded. I am wondering if the old steamboat "John M. Sharp" -- piloted by Ben Sturdivant and used extensively during Fort Pemberton operation on the Tallahatchie River whereby the Confederates halted Grant's Union flotilla -- was named after him. I am also wondering about his life, and how he died so young (32). I have written a book, and I included him in it, with all of the meager details that I had obtained from my research. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
