My husband's great-grandfather, Frederick Edward Bender was born in Indiana in 1872. He eventually moved to Chicago with his wife Ella Lane, but the rest of the family stayed in or near norhtern Indiana and into Sturgis Michigan. Fred's siblings were: John W b. 1860 Elisabeth b. 1860 and married Frank Seybert Daniel b. 1862 and married Ellen Kielkopf William b. 1864 and married Mary Kline Levi b. 1866 and married Eva ? Mary b. 1868 and married Edward Powell Emma b. 1873 and married Benjamin Goodwin The parents were Christian and Johanna Bender from Germany.
