CONRAD : HOLLOWAY | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Query Text: |
Our grandfather was given the name Conrad when he came from the part of Austria which is now the Ukraine. He was born around 1887. His first name was Michael. He married my grandmother Mary Holloway in New York and they owned a grocery store together in Manhattan. My mother- Irene Dorabic Conrad was born in 1923. At some point after that he left- suppossedly he was a gambler. We were told that he went to Chicago. I have been told that the Holloways ( spelled differently perhaps at that time) knew the Conrad family in Austria. My sister, mother, and I would like to know more about this tree of our family. Family members now deceased, including my grandmother, refused to give my mother more information about her father. We do not understand why it was such a big secret. I did discover that his hair was reddish by accident. My grandmother saw me after I had changed my color to a strawberry blonde- and I quote- "You look exactly like your grandfather!" It was not a happy tone. Please help us if you have any hunches or information. Constance Sajdak | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
