My maternal great-grandmother was born Mary Ann Banks. She was born in either Dubuque, IA, or Cherokee County, IA. She married Charles Henry Dow in Tacoma, WA, around 1890. He was previously married with children. Their sole child was my maternal grandmother, Winifred Dow Burns, of Tacoma Washington. My Mom, one of Winifred's seven children, told me as a boy that my grandmother Winifred had visited cousins in Cherokee County, Iowa, in the 1920s or 1930s with one of my maternal uncles, Robert Banks Burns.
