Query Text: |
Mississippi State A HISTORY OF RANKIN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, VOL I. "FANNIN: This community was named for one of the settlers who burned to death. The decision to use this name was not unanimous. "Fannin is a community located in northwest Rankin County, 18 miles northeast of Jackson, 12 miles north of Brandon, 12 miles southwest of the Natchez Trace, near the Pearl River and Pelahatchie Creek. It is believed to have been named for a COLONEL FANNIN, soldier of the War of 1812, who was burned to death in his home here.” When did this settlement officially get its name?
