Hello: I am seeking information on a Thomas Armstrong from northern Arkansas, probably Sharp, Fulton, Boone Counties area who fought in the Civil War. I am told that he was captured (perhaps Vicksburg area and was on way to Federal Prison camp on a riverboat and he and a friend jumped off the boat in the night into the Mississippi and swam to shore. They walked back to Arkansas (home) and stayed a couple of weeks and went back to fight. They had an encounter with a Union Seargeant on the riverboat who regularly cussed them out as no-good rebs but would then relent and give them some of his chewing tobacco. I am looking for any rosters of units in and around nothern Arkansas. The Armstrong family came from Alabama to Arkansas before the war. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
