I am doing research on my family history of the Schenker's. A little history: My grandfather, Martin Schenker, came to the USA in 1908 from Germany. He was 19 years old. His ship records say he was from Erked, Hungary, which today is Archita, Romania. He was born January 22, 1889. He resided in Lorain, Ohio, where he died December 25, 1966. He was married to Marie Schuster. According to all the records I could find, she was from Marienburg, Hungary, which is a village close to my grandfathers. She was born April 13, 1894. She also resided in Lorain, Ohio and died June 5, 1943. They had 4 children, Martin, Mathilda, Emma and Edward. Edward was my father. My father died when I was 16. My grandfather when I was 8 and my grandmother before I was born. The whole side is now gone with all its history. My research is extremely hard since I have no family members left and because they came here straight from Germany, it makes it EXTREMELY difficult to research. ANY help or info you could give me would be VERY helpful. Most ship manifests I read show almost EVERYONE going to 508 S. Jefferson in New Castle, Pa. I have been trying to research that address but haven't had much luck. I think that was just a temporary place for everyone till they found jobs and such.
