George Eli Newman, born c 1854 in Coombeinteign, Devon, in a Pub called Coombe Cellars, or Ferry Inn or Boat Inn. Known as Eli, he married Bessie Burch in Dawlish, Devon, UK in 1891. He apparently came out of the jewish faith to marry Bessie, and may have changed his name from....to Newman. His brothers and sisters worked in a circus/fair called McKeowens, as boxers and hoopla stall workers. One of the sisters was Lizzy Flood. Eli and Bessie children were Beatrice, Tom, Leslie and Herbert.
