Query Text:

I was born June 5, 1968 at St. John Hospital in Helena, MT. My birth certificate states that I was a single birth. I am searching for my birth parents, though I do not know anything concrete about them. Lutheran Social Services arranged the adoption; I was 9 days old when I was placed with my parents (Kenn and Joyce Oerkfitz), who lived in Libby. Before the beginning of the next school year (Mom and Daddy were teachers, and originally from rural northern Illinois) we moved to Chicago. I have been told that my birth mother was tall, blond, and a nurse, and that my birth father was married but not to my mother. (I also know that often stories were fabricated to protect the identity of the birth parents, so I don't place real faith in this story.) I am curious about full or half siblings. It is becoming especially critical to learn about my medical history. I have a lump in my breast. Like most adoptees, I do not have any family medical history. I need this information NOW. This is the type of thing everybody else takes for granted. I've been curious for a long time (read: everytime I make a routine doctor's visit), but now my life may depend on it. I need nothing else from my bio-family but information! I'm not looking for a replacement family, I HAVE a wonderful family; in fact, I have two, as I am going to be married in July. I am NOT looking for money, blood, bone marrow, organs, walks in the park (although, I'd be ok with that if my bio-family would like to get to know me, too), just medical information. It would be fine and very acceptable to me if this info is conveyed via a neutral third party, if that is a more comfortable situation for the folk on the other end. I don't want to cause discomfort, I just would like as much information about my medical heritage as possible, to keep me (and future children) as healthy as possible. If more information can be provided, such as ethnic heritage, family history, occurrence of twins, potential for diabetes/cancer/MS, etc., ANYTHING, I would be very grateful. Explanations for my multiple miscarriages and severe migraines? ... yeah, stuff like that. (Does anyone else have thick, curly, strawberry blonde hair? Hazel eyes? I've always wanted to see family resemblance reflected back at me, but I realize this might be asking too much.) And, of course, in the event that "bio-anyone" be interested in meeting me, I'd be pleased to meet them! At the very least, I would be very willing to exchange email and snail-mail.
