ADAMS : HALDREN

Query Text:

I seek information on William Adams, who was born in Ohio in 1820, possibly in Fayette or Ross Counties. He served as a private in the 90th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He was, at 42, the oldest enlisted man in the unit. I note that a Philip Adams, who was almost his age, joined the unit at about the same time. Were they brothers? William served until Lee's surrender. William Adams married Mary Holdren, a native of Virginia, in 1844, the wedding probably taking place in Ross County. The couple settled in Fayette County and had at least five children -- Mary Josephine (my grandmother), Wesley, Jane, Millie and Nathaniel. Nathaniel had the unusual nickname of "Cute," all the more unusual because of his occupation as a prison guard. Sometime after the Civil War, the family moved to Benton County, Missouri where William Adams died on August 26, 1884.
