Just started trying to trace my family history. Would like to at least find out when, how, and why, we came to the US. The McAlpin side from all I know has lived on the Gulf Coast, Mississippi, Florida, maybe Georgia. My fathers name was John Donovan McAlpin, Grandpa was also John Donovan.. I have no idea my great Grandfathers name or anything else.. I've heard rumours we came from Scotland and some King was killed and the McAlpins were to blame but who knows? Anyway thanx in advance and any help will definaltey be appreciated. Also, my mothers side of family is Shiver, roughly from same area if anyone can help with that.
