My GG grandfather, Jonathan "John" W. Archer, claimed he came from France at age 14, and settled in Shaftsbury, Vermont. He was born between 1827 and 1832. (On official documents, he claimed birth in New York). He married Eustacia Orcutt in Shaftsbury, VT, November 12, 1852. This is the earliest record of him I can find in the U.S. He was a captain of schooners from about 1850 to 1900, first on the Atlantic, then from 1861 on the Great Lakes. I have a good record of his life in America, but I would like to trace him back to France, but he left few details of his origin. My great grandmother's death certificate gives Paris, France as her father's birthplace. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
